Class year: Class year: CEE B.S. '13, M.Eng. '14
Job title: Consulting Engineer
Company/organization: Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Feinstein works primarily on the renovation of historic buildings with occasional work on new design and investigation projects, as well as temporary entertainment structures. She coordinates with architects, performs calculations, creates models and full structural drawing sets, and visits construction sites.
Most memorable CEE experience: "was winning the Garmezy competition in Professor Hover's Concrete Materials and Construction class. We got the opportunity to apply all the knowledge we had gained throughout the semester about how to best cure concrete, design concrete mix proportions, and test concrete strength. It was exciting to mix our own concrete and later watch as the TAs broke the cylinders in the lab."
Advice on entering the workforce: "Since there are so many paths you can take with a Civil Engineering degree, I recommend talking to professionals in different career paths to gain a better understanding of what is entailed in each career. It is also important to remember not to put too much pressure on yourself if you don't know something. While Cornell prepares you extremely well for the workforce, there is still an expectation that new graduates will have a lot of on-the-job learning."
