The Earls Group is concerned with developing novel algorithmic and computational approaches that enable new understanding concerning the actual condition, and future performance of complex structural systems. Practical challenges concerning the principled treatment of uncertainty, sparse sensing, and the complex multi-physics response modalities of the real-world are motivational in our work.
The specific research topics the group focuses on are: 1) Multi-physics contexts for structural condition assessment in the presence of uncertainty 2) Sparse sensing strategies in characterizing cracking and corrosion in metallic structural components and 3) Novel reduced order modeling strategies in solving stochastic inverse problems.
The group, led by Chris Earls is composed of three Doctoral students: Heather Reed, Raphael Sternfels, and José Cano.
